I've neglected my blog for the past month for a number of reasons; most notably that I've been spending a lot of my free time with friends and family. There's always something to do here whether it's taking a walk to the old city, or playing football aka soccer for my American readers (by the way I just played some soccer; first time in a while and I wasn't horrible). I've already made some great friends, and I've gotten to know some wonderful people. Over the past month I've been busy both with my Hebrew and with keeping in shape. A Kiwi friend of mine recommended that we run the Jerusalem marathon a little while back and this Friday I ran the 10km leg of the marathon with five others from the Ulpan. It was the first time I ran in an organized race, and it was such a great experience. Not only did I train and work hard to finish the race, but the money that I paid to run the race went to a good cause, and I ran the race with a few good friends. I've always wanted to run in a marathon, and now that I've done the 10km I'm excited to one day run a half and eventually a full marathon.
I really can't say enough about the Ulpan. Every week we have different activities and opportunities for learning provided for us by the staff here. Last night I sat in on a discussion, and although it wasn't for me I appreciate that we have plenty of opportunities for further learning and growth. Each day brings new excitement and discovery, and I can't wait for what's soon to come. This Thursday we're taking an organized trip to the south, and we should be gone for the whole day. Hopefully I'll have some fun stuff to write about then, but for now here are some pictures from the Jerusalem Marathon.
